Dinner with Friends
A design-focused, quarterly lifestyle magazine celebrating California's Central Valley, one dinner party at a time.

We hosted a wine tasting earlier this month to accompany our feature “Poppin’ Bottles” on local wine e-tailer Brix + Barrel. Now, we recognize that it is nearly impossible to mess up an event where wine is involved, but the tasting exceeded all of our expectations. And some expectations we hadn’t even thought to have. From the group of strangers who attended and ended up leaving as friends, to the talented photographer who shot the pictures that blew us out of the water, and the gorgeous downtown loft rented to us with no questions asked. We were seriously overwhelmed by how perfectly this event came together.

This isn’t a brag, and hopefully it doesn’t come off that way. We’re just so excited about this community of ours and all the people who make it so great. Seeing it in action at the tasting knocked us off our feet. People in the Central Valley are so willing (and excited) to support creative projects and new businesses in any way that they can. We’ve known that for awhile. But witnessing it never gets old.

After the event wrapped, we had a short chat with Trevor Clinard, the man behind Brix + Barrel, and it made us smile as we listened to him talk about how impressed he was with everyone who attended, and his belief in the importance of simple pleasures and small gatherings. We couldn’t agree more.

Honestly, two weeks later, we’re still pinching ourselves. We’ve been lucky to have met so many people in the Central Valley who share our outlook on this place, and who want to partner with us to highlight its beauty. And we’ve only just scratched the surface. There are still so many people to meet and collaborate with.
